Feel free to save this for later and skip ahead to get started with The Constipation Toolkit for Clinicians!!
This is included to help you better understand how food travels through our GI system. Please enjoy these videos by Ninja Nerd. If you like his stuff (I love the visuals), he has a membership program you can look into. I have no affiliation with this entity but found their instructions to very thorough and educational.
This is not a requirement, but recommended additional learning tools to enrich your understanding of the GI system.
Intake questions (qualitative data, pertinent hx, PMHX, medications, biopsycho approach)
PFDI-20
PFIQ-7
Bristol Stool Form Scale
Pain catastrophizing scale
Bowel & Bladder log
Journaling (food, symptoms, emotions, activity, stress, sleep, menstrual cycle if applicable)
Understanding the purpose and benefits for performing an intrarectal digital assessment will allow you to craft your communication and confidently present to information your client will need to make an informed decision that feels safe for them. Knowledge is power. If we are uncertain of the reasons, or nervous to take about this topic, out clients will pick up on that and potentially make a decision to exclude beneficial treatment options.
Mind-Body Manual therapies that interact with the fascial, MSK, respiratory, nervous, and circulatory systems with the somatic frame and higher brain centers (limbic, amygdala, thalamus, brain stem).
If you find this work helpful and would like to take a deeper dive, I highly recommend the work of Ramona Horton who teaches with Herman & Wallace Institute and has a series of fascial mobilization courses. The techniques found in this section come directly from her trainings and are a nice way to dip your toes into using your manual skills to "have a conversation with the brain" as Ramona says.
At EPH, we strongly believe that bowel health plays a significant role in pelvic health symptoms. However, it's important to approach learning in a manageable way to avoid confusion and overwhelm. While it would be helpful to learn all the information right away, we recommend gradually layering in education to maintain enthusiasm for your pelvic health journey.
You may be wondering how this relates to Annual Strategic Planning. During my training, I realized that as I progressed in my understanding, I also advanced in my personal and professional practice. This led to the development of the Creative Strategic Planning process, which combines effective planning tools with creative applications to enhance both my business and personal fulfillment.
For those who can relate to this transitional phase and seek guidance in growing their practice without compromising personal priorities, I offer my gift. If you resonate with this and are willing to engage in deep inner work to cultivate a creative and intuitive approach to practice growth, I invite you to join the EPH Unplugged Event: Empowered Evolution on June 15-16, 2024. This event follows the Cr-MATT live lab training day on June 14th. Together, we will explore self-discovery and healthy habits to create the life you've always envisioned while continuing to serve the pelvic health community with freedom and joy.
Please enjoy this bonus resource module from The Constipation Toolkit for Clinicians!
A complete library of videos and handouts (found throughout the course modules) at a glance.
I invite you to download these resources and share them with your clients for improved carryover and compliance with home programs.
